Sea Alms - Cilacap Regency

The Sea Alms ritual is annually held by the fishermen in Sidakaya village, Donan, Sentolo Kawat, Tegal Katilayu, and Lengkong in Cilacap regency to express their gratitude towards God and to wish of having a better life in the coming years. The ritual is held on every Tuesday Kliwon or Friday Kliwon* in Assyura (1st month in Arabic/Javanese calendar) that is on the January 18th, 2008. The ritual is about throwing offerings (food stuffs) called |i-"sesaji"-i| to the open sea of Teluk Penyu beach. It starts by carrying the offerings from Regent's residence of Cilacap regency to Teluk Penyu beach, done by the people dressed in old-aged Kadipaten Cilacap traditional clothing. As they get to Teluk Penyu, the sesaji is then carried to the open sea (Indian ocean), particularly to a small island called Majeti, with a colorfully decorated ship. The sea alms ceremony is ended up in the evening with traditional art performances performed by these fishermen.(*Kliwon is the Javanese day)

Sail Indonesia is an annual yachting event, which takes route from Darwin, Australia to Indonesia. Karimunjawa island have become one of some destinations of Sail Indonesia since 2006. Yachts from many countries joint this event.
Lomban - Batang Regency

Lomban is a traditional boat racing party which is held in every Idul Fitri, Islamic greatest holiday by the people in Klidang Lor, Batang. The racing starts on the first day of Idul Fitri and ends on the sixth day. There is a parade of the racing participants wear all kinds of clothes from traditional into modern ones before the racing. The parade starts at Klidang Lor village and finish at the formal residence of the regent.
Grebeg Demak - Demak Regency

The Grebeg Demak is an annual event held to welcome/celebrate the Islamic holiday, Idul Adha. The event is preceded by 7-days-nights market at Tembiring Jogo Indah Square, Wonosalam sub-district, Demak regency. The Grebeg Demak ritual itself is held on Dzulhijjah 9th or December 7th, 2008 at 19.00 P.M.. When the Tumpeng Sembilan (nine large bamboo platters of cone shaped rice surrounded by various side dishes and vegetables) are brought in to a procession from the Demak regent's residence to the Demak Grand mosque on the city centre for being blessed and then distributed to the visitors. On the following day at 08.00 A.M., the Jamas Oil is carried by the Demak regent as the Adipati dressed in Beskap (Javanese traditional male clothing) from his residence to the Kadilangu graveyard followed by the Patangpuluhan soldiers. At the Kadilangu graveyard, about 2 kilometers from Demak city centre, the washing ceremony of Keris Kyai Crubuk and Kotang Ontokusumo is held. The washing of these heirlooms is done by the Kadilangu leader which is as well Sunan Kalijaga's descendant. |
