In 2002, Mrs. Megawati Sukarnoputri as president of Indonesia, and H. Mardiyanto as governor of Central Java province, declared tourism programme based on natural ecosystem and SSB (Solo, Selo, Borobudur) track. This programme stimulated 100 home stays which owned and managed by local community. The concept of home stays is different from hotels, inns, or another ones. In home stays, visitors can feel the real daily life of local community, natural environment, and unique traditions.

Tourism Interests
The aim from declaration of tourism programme based on natural ecosystem is increasing tourism sector in the area. SSB track is one of implementations that declaration. Selo is part of SSB track that have good ecosystem which can be developed into a tourism village. In this region, the local traditions and its nature are the most attractive points. The village panorama and beautiful scenic of mount Merapi and Merbabu are examples of the beautiful landscapes this area offered.
   
  3. Package Tours
    Tourist guides are provided for tourists who want to visit tourism objects or do climbing mount. The fee are shown below (based on 2006 data).

Climbing mount Merapi

-Professional Guide Rp 150,000.00 (one time climbing)
-Local Guide Rp 100,000.00 (one time climbing)
-Porter Rp 150,000.00 (maximal 15 kg per porter)

Climbing mount Merbabu
-Professional Guide Rp 250,000.00 (one time climbing)

  4. Metal Handicrafts
   
In Selo region, there is a home industry center which produce metal handicrafts. That home industry center is located in Tumang village. According to the local tale, about 18th century, born a child from Mataram II kingdom family, named Rogosasi. Because of physical defect, he was not allowed to live in palace. Then he was brought to Kyai Wonosegoro who lived in mount Merapi slope. After Rogosasi became adult and could be independent, he moved to another place, and then built a village there. The prince was helped by envoys from Mataram kingdom. The first envoys help the prince and local community to make keris (traditional dagger) and its case. The second helped to make clothes made from silver. And the third helped the villagers to make cooking tools made from copper. And the last envoys help the villagers sewing the clothes.

In the beginning, the villagers in Tumang village produced home equipments made from coppers. Then, starting by 1980's, some new inovations were added. Some people tried to make
some carving coppers. This caused the products changed from home equipments to home accessories. Meanwhile, home equipment products made from copper was changed into home equipment products made from aluminium. This was starting from 1990's.

  5. Accommodations
    Selo tourism village is equipped with home stays which owned and managed by local villagers.
Based on 2006 data, the average fee for one night room is 30,000 rupiahs, and added by 10,000 rupiahs per night if requsting warm water. Below is a home stays list in Selo tourism village.
