History
Based on elders story, the history of village began when someone called
Joyokusumo ran away from Diponegoro war (war between Diponegoro troops
and the Dutch troops) and visited this village, then stayed awhile.
Regions in this Duwet village passed by Joyokusumo were named according
to his conditions. For example Mansuran, which came from
"ngansur-ansur" (hard breathing because of long running), Soran which
came from word "kasoran" (defeat from war), and Salam Rejo which was
choosed because Joyokusumo has felt safety.
The history above describes a relationship between Duwet village and
Yogyakarta palace (Diponegoro was a prince from Yogyakarta). It was
shown that the first chief of Duwet village controlled his village,
while he was a servant for the palace..
Geographical
and Demography Situation
The wide of Duwet village is about 94.18 Ha with north position
bordered by Mranggen village, south position bordered by Karang Lo
village, west position bordered by Dernals Ijo village, and for east
position bordered by Gatak village. Most of this village area is
accommodated for agriculture fields (61.50 Ha). Duwet village is
situated on low land, approximately 158 m above sea surface. Until
2006, number of people in Duwet is 2027. The average rain capacity is
1082 mm/year, and average temperature is 32 degrees Celcius.
Local
Community
From the society composition, Duwet village is plural enough. Various
religions have followers in this village. And Javanese culture as
inheritence from the ancestors, is also everlasting in Duwet. The
locals have strong family-relationship and they are help each others.
It is shown in various local traditions and activities in this village.
Most of villagers in Duwet are farmers, although now there is a
shifting process where another villagers work outer agriculture area,
such as traders, labors or craftmans.

A.
Merti Desa
Merti Desa is local tradition procession in form of cleaning the
village. Together, all components of society in Duwet wrapped in this
activity. With doing this activity, they hope God gives protection and
welfare. One of activity accompanying Merti Desa is wayangan semalam
suntuk (the puppet show performance all night long). Merti Desa is
usually held on 1st Muharram (Suran - Javanese calendar) and 10
Dhulhihah (Besaran).
B. Sambatan
Sambatan is an activity done together by local villagers to build or to
fix a house belong to one villager. This activity shows us solidarity
and willingness to help each others.
C. Kumbakarnan Tradition
This tradition is held when the local villagers are preparing a wedding
procession of a villager. This term was emerged because villagers who
came to this activity were served by a lot of dishes. Based on
traditional Bharatyuda epic, king Kumbakarna served many people with a
lot of dishes when he was appointed as a war leader in Bharatayuda war.
So the tradition then named Kumbakarnan tradition.

Campur Sari Groups
Campur sari is one kind of traditional musics in Java. In Duwet, there
are three groups of campur sari, they are Tombo Ati, Adventura Nada,
and Abilowo. Tombo Ati and Adventura Nada belong to youth generation,
and Abilowo belongs to older one.
B. Leather Puppet Group
Duwet is used to have a respected dalang (dalang is a main performer of
a puppet show) for Surakarta region whose named Ki Wiro Warsono. The
sons of Ki Wiro Warsono then continued their father's way by making
leather puppet groups. One of them is Kesdik Kasdolamono which is a
respected dalang in Surakarta now, besides he is a guest lecturer in
STSI Surakarta. .

Industry
sector which is developed in Duwet is home industry. The products from
this home industry can be good souvenirs for visitors who come to this
village.
A. Local
Food Rengginan Ketela
Rengginan Ketela is a kind of local food made by cassava. In Duwet,
there is a network of villagers running this home industry, called
Ngudi Prayogo.
B. The Craft of Chicken Feather Duster
This kind of craft located in Soran and Duwet sub-villages. Yogyakarta
and Klaten are the main market for this home industry.
C. The Craft of Leather Puppet
This craft is an inheritence from Duwet ancestors. This activity also
support leather puppet show, an traditional art performance from this
village.
D. Bamboo Art Works
Local villagers of Duwet are also good in producing art works made by
bamboo. Various products and accessories made by bamboo are available
in this village.
